How is meaning conveyed?
- Words (the literal meaning) account for 7% of the overall message
- Tone of voice accounts for 38% of the overall message
- Body Language accounts for 55% of the overall message
Too many people with English as a second language (or third or fourth) are worried about their language skills. They have not thought about how well they are projecting their messages.
If words are only 7% of meaning then why is all of the focus on vocabulary, grammar and syntax? Instead we must focus on the skilled PROJECTION OF MEANING (using language). We believe that skilled message projection is a far better definition of what communication is all about given there are so many forms and elements to communication, not just speaking or writing.
