Negotiation & Advocacy

Are you worried you are unable to motivate your staff?

Advocacy generally refers to the process of trying to persuade others to support your position or point of view. It can take place in many contexts, both formally (such as in a meeting, on the phone, in an email) and informally (such as at home or with friends).

What is the difference between Advocacy and Negotiation? While advocacy and negotiation go hand-in-hand, it is important to remember that the processes are distinguishable. When advocating, you are usually trying to convince the other party of the merits of your position. However in a negotiation all parties have a stake in the matter and are generally trying to work toward a mutually beneficial agreement.

When negotiating, you need to use language that encourages discussion and bargaining, with the goal of reaching a settlement or compromise. When advocating you need to use language to prioritise your position over other options.

WHILE THIS PROGRAM IS TAUGHT IN ENGLISH ITS CORE SKILLS CAN BE APPLIED TO ALL WORKING ENVIRONMENTS, REGARDLESS OF WHAT LANGUAGE IS BEING USED.
